Rio Del and Scotia

The babies.
Alleah, Grace and Jake(Megan's Son)

Brent with his Mom, talking with an old neighbor.
I love this photo because Brent is REALLY smiling, teeth and everything.
That is NOT a Wood thing to do.

Jaren slowly recovering from being carsick.
He actually threw up in front of Brent's old house, twice.
Poor kid.

View from the train, looking at the rest of the small park.

Me and the kids.

The Scotia train.
Donna always remembers the train being there.
So that's a REALLY long time!!!

Feeding the ducks.
Mike refused to get out of the car.
Some of the adults threw full peices of bread.
Sometimes the adults act more childish then the children.
If you look real close at Beckham, he has his whole body into throwing bread.

The grandkids.
Our 6, and Alleah.

The first full day in California we spent re-tracing Brent's childhood. We stopped by the house that he grew up in, visited his neighbors that were still there and the elementary school that he attended. No trip is complete without a visit to the Scotia Train. Scotia was a town that was owned by the Pacific Lumber Company. Only people who worked for the company could live in the city. This is where Brent's Mom was born, and she grew up. I guess in a way, we also re-traced her childhood as well. What use to be a bustling, busy, producting city and company was as close to a ghost town as you can get. There were a few people there. Brent commented on how sad it was to him to see the demise of such a city. The town he grew up in, not much better. His neighbor told us that on his street alone were 3 pot-growing homes. SCARY!!! On some eveings with the right wind, you can just smell the stuff wafting through the streets. Lovely.
We also stopped to feed the ducks, and to see the fish hatchery. Again, no one around. We had both destinations to oursleves, which was nice. No crowds to fight.
We had to pass one of the few working parts of the Lumber company and the kids complained about the awful smell. Brent and I figured it was from the bark being stripped from the trees. It was a powerful, almost burnt dill smell.
It was a beautiful day. The fog was gone by early morning. And from what I understand, this is not common place in Humbolt County. The sun was warm and the company comfortable.

What an exciting adventure! Asher and Soren would have peed themselves over the train! Thanks for posting! I love the action shot of Beckham throwing bread. He is for reals feeding the birdie birdens.
