On the 5th day of Christmas

I took my true loves to the Springville Art Museum.

I love abstract self portraits!
For the most part.

Beckham was the lucky one to open the envelope today.

I have such good posers!!

Hurry inside, let's get this ding dang thing over with!!

I read in the paper last week that this museum had a Children's Christmas art display. I thought it would be fun to go. As we pulled up to the Museum I asked the kids how they should act in a Museum:
Hannah: We don't fight
Jaren: We don't burp
Isabel: We fold our arms and don't run

Good job kids.

As we walked in, it took me a minute to take in my surroundings. I guess the kids were in free range mode because the first thing the woman behind the information desk said, "please make sure to tell your kids to stay at least 18 inches from all pictures" I kinda stood there a little dumb founded. She didn't welcome me or ask if she could help me find a certain display. Ya, lady, I'm going to let my children run hell-pell and touch every picture with their greasy, dirty hands. Really? Give me some credit here!! I know I have a lot of children, and sometimes it seems like I have 10 rather then 6. But for the most part, we do a pretty good job in joints like this.

It took us a few turns before we found what we were looking for. Before reaching our destination, in typical Isabel fashion commented, "Mom this is so boring. There is nothing to look at!" Really Isabel, not even all the art work on the walls? After walking down one wall of the Children's artwork Jaren asked if it was time to go. I allowed my children to suffer a little longer and we walked through all the rooms on the main floor. For the most part I was fascinated by all the artwork. In one piece I asked what was wrong? The woman's neck was unnaturally long. From then on every picture we stopped at Annika would ask, " What's wrong with this picture." Next time I'll find a different question to get my children's minds going.

One thing I learned from this evening, my children need more culture in their lives. I need to take them to more Art Museums. I love going to Museums and seeing the World from others points of view.

How great that you have such a great resource near you! I need to go find an art museum near here. Just hoping I don't have to venture into LA for it... I imagine my kids would have the same reaction as yours though: BORING!

Question ideas, "What do you think this painting means?" What do you like about this one?" "How does this one make you feel?" "What words come to mind when you look at this?" Fun activity!
